About Connacht Cricket Union
The Connacht Cricket Union (C.C.U.) is the official governing body for cricket in the province of Connacht, dedicated to growing and developing the sport at all levels. As one of the five provincial unions under Cricket Ireland, we work alongside Cricket Leinster, Munster Cricket Union, Northern Cricket Union, and North West Cricket Union to strengthen the game nationwide.
Founded on 29th October 2010, at Durkin’s Bar & Restaurant in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon, the C.C.U. carries forward a rich cricketing heritage – one that dates back to 1825, when Ireland’s first formal cricket club was established in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway.

A New Era for Cricket in Connacht
In March 2021, the Union underwent a significant transformation, adopting a new Constitution and Governance structure and earning recognition as an Associate Member of Cricket Ireland. Taking further steps towards growth, we became a limited company on June 26, 2023 – a move that solidifies our foundation for the future.
Competitions & Community
Today, the C.C.U. is home to eight registered clubs, with six actively competing in our leagues and tournaments. Our competitions include:
🏏 Connacht Senior League
🏏 Connacht Senior Cup
🏏 Junior League & T/20 Shield League
In 2012, C.C.U. teams made history by competing in Cricket Ireland’s National Cup for the first time, marking a significant milestone in our resurgence. Looking ahead, we are committed to fostering underage cricket, with plans to launch a dedicated underage league within the next two years.
