We are proud to share a momentous milestone in our history: Connacht Cricket Union is now officially an affiliated Provincial Union of Cricket Ireland.
Following a two-year journey of incorporation, governance, and organisational development, our affiliation was unanimously confirmed at the Cricket Ireland Annual General Meeting. This recognition marks a new chapter for cricket in the West of Ireland and places Connacht alongside the four other provincial unions: Cricket Leinster, Munster Cricket Union, North West Cricket Union, and Northern Cricket Union.

A Historic Day for Cricket in the West
Our Chair, Jeff Smith, shared the significance of this achievement during the AGM:
This day is a true honour for all involved with the Connacht Cricket Union. It has taken us nearly 100 years to get here, but we are delighted to be here now.
However, in recognising the honour, we believe that our work really only starts now. Our commitment is strong and we aim to make a meaningful contribution to Irish cricket over the coming years.

Recognition from Cricket Ireland
Brian MacNeice, Chair of Cricket Ireland, welcomed our union with open arms:
On behalf of Cricket Ireland, and indeed the wider Irish cricket community, I am delighted to formally welcome Connacht as a fully affiliated member of the Cricket Ireland family.
We have been greatly impressed with the Connacht team’s passion, and we are excited about the possibilities for developing participation numbers in the coming years.
Today marks another milestone for Irish cricket. It is a day to celebrate.
Looking Ahead
This affiliation not only gives Connacht a voice at the national table, but it also strengthens our platform for growth, funding, and development across the province. With representation on the Cricket Ireland Board, we are now in a stronger position to support clubs, players, volunteers, and the wider cricketing community in Connacht.
As we move forward, our focus remains on continuing to grow the game at grassroots level, strengthening our clubs, and creating opportunities for cricketers of all ages and abilities across Connacht.
Thank You
We’re deeply grateful to everyone who has supported us on this journey – our board, staff, volunteers, local clubs, and wider cricket community. This is just the beginning, and we look forward to what lies ahead as we work together to shape the future of cricket in Connacht.
